Zimbabwe’s police force has officially cut ties with former Assistant Inspector Simbarashe Mandizvidza, 35, after a disciplinary hearing found him guilty of “behaving improperly and acting in an unbecoming manner” during incidents on 13 and 14 August 2025. The Commissioner‑General’s zero‑tolerance stance was reiterated in a press statement, and the discharge was sealed on 3 December 2025.
The internal process was described as “formal and comprehensive,” and the decision underscores the ZRP’s commitment to enforcing the Police Act. In addition to the administrative penalty, Mandizvidza has been arrested and now faces three criminal counts:
– *Causing disaffection* within the police or defence forces – a charge tied to his viral videos claiming leadership of the ZRP .
– *Fraudulent procurement and use of a police vehicle* – he allegedly obtained a Ford Ranger under false pretences and drove it to Bindura, where it was later recovered.
– *Transmission of false information* with intent to cause harm – the same videos that ordered Chinese nationals to leave the country within 48 hours.
The case has drawn attention because Mandizvidza’s actions were broadcast on social media, prompting a swift police response. While the ZRP stressed a “zero‑tolerance” policy, some observers have highlighted his mental‑health status; medical reports presented to the court indicated he was not of sound mind, leading to his indefinite commitment to a psychiatric unit.
As the former officer remains in custody pending further hearings, the police have signalled that disciplinary measures will continue alongside criminal proceedings, sending a clear message about expected conduct for all members of the service.
