Harare – Telecommunications provider TelOne has rolled out a new service that links traditional landline numbers directly to mobile handsets, the company announced this week. The upgrade lets users receive and manage landline calls on their mobile phones without any extra equipment.

According to TelOne, the feature is aimed at households and businesses that still rely on fixed lines but want greater flexibility. “People want convenience, and this service gives them the ability to stay connected to their landline number wherever they are,” said a senior TelOne representative.

The service, which follows recent internal system upgrades to boost network capacity and reliability, uses seamless call‑forwarding technology to integrate fixed‑line and mobile platforms. Industry analysts note that the move aligns with a global trend of fixed‑line operators expanding into mobile‑based solutions to stay relevant.

Local telecom experts believe the offering could reduce missed calls and improve communication efficiency, especially for organisations that operate multiple departments under a single landline number. TelOne said the feature will help businesses maintain customer service standards by ensuring important calls are answered even when staff are away from their desks.

Customers are encouraged to visit TelOne service centres for activation details and support. The company’s customer‑support team has been briefed to assist with setup and troubleshooting as the service gains wider adoption.

TelOne added that it will continue to expand its digital and voice innovations as part of an ongoing transformation programme, with further updates expected as additional services are rolled out across the country.
