Some Sundays arrive with a clear plan. Others — like today — show up quietly, unannounced, carrying nothing but the soft hum of possibility. And honestly, that’s the beauty of them.

There’s a certain calm that settles over Harare on a Sunday. The city exhales. Kombis move a little slower, neighbourhoods wake up a little later, and even the weather seems to sit back and let the day unfold at its own pace.

Maybe you’re reading this from your bed, sunlight sneaking through the curtain. Maybe you’re already up, kettle boiling, deciding between rooibos and the stronger stuff. Or maybe, like many of us, you woke up with a simple thought:
“Today… I’m blank.”

And that’s perfectly fine.

Not every day must arrive with productivity, inspiration or urgency. Sometimes the most meaningful thing you can do is nothing at all — to let your mind rest, to step back from the noise, to give yourself permission to simply be.

If you take a slow drive through the city today, you’ll see it everywhere:

A gardener watering flowers with no rush at all.

Kids in dusty yards kicking a deflated ball but laughing like it’s the World Cup final.

A man at the corner tuckshop buying bread and newspapers, exchanging greetings the old-fashioned way — with eye contact and a smile.

Churchgoers filtering out into the streets, their clothes crisp, their spirits lighter.

Nothing dramatic. Nothing headline-worthy. Just life, unbothered.

And maybe that’s the reminder we all need today:
That quiet moments are not empty — they’re restorative.
Blankness is not a problem — it’s a reset.
Rest is not laziness — it’s maintenance.

So if you’re blank today, embrace it.
Take the slow route.
Sit with your thoughts — or sit with none at all.
Make tea. Call no one. Call someone. Read something short and gentle.
Step outside and feel the sun you’ve been too busy to acknowledge all week.

Let this be a soft day.

Harare will be here tomorrow with its noise, its hustle, its energy and its endless demands. But today? Today can be yours.

Happy Sunday
