The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Vehicle Theft Squad (VTS) has issued a public advisory after six suspects were arrested in connection with a series of robbery cases targeting unsuspecting motorists and commuters in Harare.
According to police sources, the group operated using a calculated modus operandi in which they allegedly offered lifts to victims, before robbing them and pushing them out of the moving vehicle or abandoning them shortly after. The incidents reportedly occurred in various parts of the city, with victims losing valuables such as mobile phones, wallets, and personal documents.
The suspects were arrested following a VTS-led operation and have since been detained at Highlands Police Station for further investigations.
Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid accepting lifts from unregistered or suspicious vehicles, especially during late hours or when travelling alone.
ZRP further encouraged motorists and commuters to:
✅ Use trusted transport operators
✅ Share travel details with family or friends
✅ Report any suspicious behaviour or attempted crimes immediately
The Vehicle Theft Squad continues to pursue related leads, with authorities warning that more arrests may follow as the investigation deepens.
Police say the arrest of the six suspects is a significant step toward curbing robbery cases involving lifts and ensuring community safety.
More updates to follow as the story develops.
