Johannesburg – South African police have detained two Zimbabwean men after discovering a large cache of illegal Remington Gold cigarettes valued at roughly R180 000 (about US$10 000). The operation began after authorities received a tip that two white Toyota Corolla Quest sedans were transporting the contraband from Musina to Tzaneen.

Officers spotted the vehicles heading toward the Tzaneen industrial area and attempted to stop them. Both drivers accelerated, leading police on a high‑speed chase that ended when the cars were cornered near the Sasol industrial complex. A search of the sedans revealed they were completely filled with the illicit cigarettes.

The suspects, aged 37 and 48, were arrested at the scene and are expected to face charges of illegal importation and possession of contraband. Police say the seizure underscores ongoing efforts to curb cross‑border smuggling in the region.
