A routine security operation in Limpopo resulted in the interception of illicit cigarettes worth more than R3 million, reinforcing the SANDF’s role in border protection. The operation was conducted under Operation Corona, which focuses on preventing illegal cross-border activities.
Joint Tactical Headquarters Limpopo confirmed that the seizure was made by the 1 South African Tank Regiment. The total value of the confiscated cigarettes amounted to R3,478,648.00, reflecting a significant financial blow to illicit trading networks.
The interception occurred while soldiers were conducting a Vehicle Control Point. A white Hino truck was stopped and found to be transporting illicit cigarettes into South Africa from the direction of Zimbabwe.
In line with operational protocols, the illicit goods and the driver were handed over to the South African Police Service for further processing. Colonel Dikgabane Herold Tladi applauded the soldiers for a job well done during the operation.
