Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League side Ngezi Platinum Stars have been slapped with a transfer ban by FIFA after failing to pay former coach Bongani Mafu US196,000 for wrongful dismissal.
The dispute, stemming from Mafu’s sacking in 2022 alongside Benjani Mwaruwari, went to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which upheld FIFA’s ruling. Despite a deadline to settle the amount last month, the club did not comply.
FIFA Head of Disciplinary, Americo Espallargas, confirmed in a letter to ZIFA that the ban will stand *until the full amount is paid* — and could last up to three full registration periods.
This comes at a critical time for Ngezi, who’ve already lost seven players and head coach Takesure Chiragwi to CAPS United. Fears of a possible collapse or franchise sale have started to grow.
Meanwhile, Benjani Mwaruwari is also suing for US600,000.
