Harare’s drainage system is in shambles, and it is causing chaos in the city. Every time it rains, streets become rivers, and cars are submerged in water. The Harare City Council is to blame for not maintaining the system, and it’s putting residents’ lives at risk.

The city’s inadequate drainage infrastructure can’t handle heavy rainfall, leading to flooding, traffic congestion, and even accidents. Residents are frustrated, and businesses are suffering. “It’s a serious hazard,” says Max Ngundu, a concerned citizen.

The Harare City Council has not been doing its job in maintaining the drainage system, leading to blockages and clogging.
Littering and Poor Waste Management is another huge contributor to poor drainage in Harare. Residents are dumping rubbish in drains, exacerbating.
The city’s drainage system is old and outdated, unable to cope with the demands of a growing population.
The destruction of wetlands has reduced the city’s natural ability to absorb water, contributing to flooding.

The consequences are dire: waterborne diseases, damaged infrastructure, and economic losses. It’s time for the authorities to take action and prioritize the city’s drainage system.

The Harare City Council has promised to improve the situation, with measures such as clearing blocked drains and installing catch-pit covers. However, residents remain skeptical, demanding more concrete action.

On the other hand, some brave youths are capitalizing by running mini carts business ferrying people to dry land. They are charging 50 cents per trip. ‎
